Mensa was originally name by Lacaille in honor of the mesas visible near the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa. Mensa is located between Dorado and the South Celestial Pole and contains a portion of the Large Megellanic Cloud within its borders.
Mensa is the 75th largest constellation covering 153 square degrees and is the dimmest constellation. Mensa reaches opposition on December 16.
